✦ New teaching methods

Advanced 3D visualization teaching method

I aim to provide an overview of the various digital three-dimensional visualizations used for learning anatomy and to assess whether these improve medical students’ understanding of anatomy compared to traditional learning methods. Furthermore, I evaluate the attitudes of the users of three-dimensional visualizations. I compared advanced newer three-dimensional anatomy visualization methods (i.e., virtual reality, augmented reality, and computer-based three-dimensional visualizations) to traditional methods that have been used for a long time (i.e., cadaver and textbooks) with regard to users’ understanding of anatomy. Three-dimensional visualization is a significantly more effective learning method compared to traditional methods.

Problem-based learning (PBL)

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem found in trigger material. The PBL process does not focus on problem solving with a defined solution, but it allows for the development of other desirable skills and attributes. This includes knowledge acquisition, enhanced group collaboration and communication.

Creative Thinking

Creative thinking is the ability to approach a problem or challenge from a new perspective, alternative angle, or with an atypical mindset. This might mean thinking outside of the box, taking techniques from one discipline and applying them to another, or simply creating space for new ideas and alternative solutions to present themselves through dialogue, experimentation, or reflection.
